Students to perform in Broadway showcase

Experience a musical journey from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the streets of Chicago and everywhere in between with LaGrange College Musical Theatre’s Homecoming show ‘Take It From The Top.’

“We wanted to put on a musical that spotlights our talented students as well as our new state-of-the-art lighting system gifted to the Theatre department through a generous donation,” said Tim Fitz-Gerald, Director and Choreographer. “There will be an eclectic variety of opening numbers from golden-age and contemporary Broadway musicals.”

The showcase will feature 10 students from a range of majors that include Theatre Arts, Music and Political Science.

Senior Zac Hill, a member of the LC Men’s Basketball team who became interested in theatre during an Acting I class, is looking forward to taking the stage in his first show.

“Practicing the different songs and challenging choreography has been a huge undertaking, but I am up for it,” he said. “Being able to learn from some of the other veteran performers has helped a lot.”

Junior Musical Theatre major Will Gray is a newcomer to LaGrange College and said he has liked learning about the technical elements of the show.

“I have never done anything that has the immense production values that LaGrange College has the ability to put into a show,” he said. “It was really cool to see how the set transforms to add to the show in an amazing way.”

Sophomore Aria Mabry, who has a few productions under her belt, said this showcase is a new experience for her.

“I am excited to learn and grow as a performer and participate in many large musical numbers,” she said.

Fitz-Gerald said he has enjoyed seeing the students collaborate together.

“We have seasoned performers working alongside newcomers both on stage and in the Theatre and Musical Theatre programs. “Seeing them learn from one another and grow in all areas — acting, singing and dancing — is fulfilling as a director and theatre artist,” he said.

The show opens Oct. 12 and runs through Oct. 15. Show times are 7 p.m. Thursday, 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Seating is general admission—no reservations are necessary. It is recommended for attendees to arrive early. The show is free for faculty, staff and students; $10 for adults and free for children under 12.
